TRENDS| LIPGLOSSES FOR SPRING/SUMMER '16

South_African_Beauty_Bloggers

I never thought I'd find myself wearing high sheen lipglosses again, but I found a few that have me coming back for more and they are right on track with spring/summer '16 makeup trends!

And they look gorgeous on dark skin...if I do say so myself! ;)

My favourite lipglosses for SS16

In the past my issues with lipgloss were that I found them messy, not pigmented enough and they wouldn't even last past an accidental lip lick, but thankfully the latest formulas are generally quite long-lasting, loaded with colour and are thick enough not to slip and slide off your lips. The ones that I've been loving are NYX Butter Gloss in 'Gingersnap', Yardley London Stayfast High Definition Lipgloss in 'Glamour Girl' and Iman Cosmetics Luxury Lip Shimmer in 'Icon'*. Although I started reaching for these back in winter, I find that they are quite on trend with the vibrancy and festivities of the warmer season and this year nudes, corals and classic reds seem to be the 'it' colours.

NYX Gingersnap is a gorgeous nude on darker skin tones

NYX Butter Gloss in 'Gingersnap' is a lovely toffee-scented mauve brown lip gloss which works well as a nude shade on darker skin tones. Although lightweight, it has a rather thick consistency which means that if you accidentally lick your lips, it doesn't budge. The creamy formula applies quite smoothly and leaves your lips feeling supple and delicious (thankfully with no after taste!). The colour payoff is sheer on application, and unfortunately it sheers out even further after an hour so it's best you wear a nude lipstick/liner to amp up the pigmentation. I love wearing this lipgloss on my 'no makeup' days or when I feel like a simple makeup look. Retails for R124.95 at Clicks

Yardley_Lipgloss
Natural 'Glamour Girl'

Yardley London Stayfast High Definition Lipgloss in ‘Glamour Girl’ is great for those days when you want a bit of colour but aren't willing to commit to anything too bold and in your face. It has a rusty orange hue with subtle gold shimmer so if you want to test the waters with metallics, it's a good start. The lipgloss has a citrusy scent and taste but unlike Gingersnap, it does have an after taste (I promise I don't purposefully taste lipglosses - it's just a bad lip-licking habit, lol). The Vitamin-E rich formula has a thick consistency which applies quite smoothly and is lightweight. What I love most about this lipgloss is the pigmentation - it's incredibly opaque and long-lasting and when it eventually sheers out, it leaves a subtle orange-nude metallic stain. Available at Edgars, Foschini, Clicks & Dischem (retails for R109.95 at Dischem)

No lipsticks needed - Iman Lip Shimmer in 'Icon' is quite pigmented

I received Iman Luxury Lip Shimmer* in ‘Icon’ when I attended the launch of Iman Cosmetics Africa's online store back in July and was so impressed with the pigmentation of the lipgloss that it became an instant favourite. Iman Cosmetics describes the lip shimmer as 'a high-shine gloss that is long wearing, packed with Vitamin E, Chamomile and Shea Butter for 'Kiss me' lips.' The particular shade that I received in my goodie bag is a rich candy apple red with blue undertones - one of those reds that looks good on any skin tone and makes your teeth look whiter and brighter!  The gloss also applies quite smoothly and as I mentioned has incredible pigmentation. It's also the longest-lasting out of the three mentioned in this post, however it has an indescribable scent which I don't particularly like, but is thankfully quite subtle. I love to pair this lipgloss with fresh-face matte makeup for a classic 'femme-fatale' look. Retails for R249.50 at Stuttafords or online at imancosmetics.co.za

PS: I use natural light for my pics and when I shot the last pic, the sun had started to set hence the difference in lighting. Apologies!

Which one is your favourite?
I'd also love suggestions for a pink lipgloss - don't have anything in that colour.

Love,

V
