DIY| CLEAN YOUR BRUSHES QUICKLY & EASILY

Since embarking on a new skincare journey, I've become somewhat obsessive about the cleanliness of my brushes, especially my foundation brushes. I naturally had to find a quick and easy way to clean them and the combination of Garnier's Micellar Water, Johnson's Baby Shampoo and a grooved rubber glove (#XpressBrushGlove) from SwiitchBeauty turned out to be perfect!

We all know the importance of using clean makeup brushes, however despite the fact that dirty brushes and sponges accumulate old makeup, oils, dust and dead skin cells and can be a bacterial breeding ground that eventually causes skin irritations (rashes, acne flare up) and discolours your foundation application, washing makeup brushes is still one of THOSE chores that most of us don't prioritise and usually leave for that one weekend when you are absolutely cornered to clean them.

A worthy substitute for olive oil

In the past I used the classic combination of olive oil, baby shampoo and a regular dishwashing glove and sure I was satisfied with the result, but I found the use of olive oil to be messy and the thought of drenching my Real Techniques sponge in oil just didn't sit well with me. When using olive oil, I would rinse my brushes with warm water to assist with removing excess olive oil but since using micellar water, cold water is sufficient which means that I don't need to worry about the longevity of my brushes. Furthermore, I've realised that substituting olive oil with micellar water has made the cleansing process a lot faster. You see, micellar water contains tiny unnoticeable 'micelles'  (or molecules) of oil that are formulated to bind to oils and dirt and dissolve them for effortless cleansing. It is popularly used for makeup removal due to its effectiveness in quickly removing long-lasting waterproof makeup without stripping the skin of its natural moisture.

Good for baby, good for you!

Johnson's Baby Shampoo is a staple in a lot of bloggers' makeup kits because it gets the job done without jeopardising the texture of the makeup sponge or brush bristles.

The #XpressBrushGlove has an assortment of grooved patterns to suit your makeup tool.

The grooved rubber glove is another noteworthy addition. There are different sorts of patterns on the glove to suit the type of makeup tool that you are washing, which I think is pretty awesome!

I've filmed a quick DIY tutorial on my YouTube Channel, so you can check out my brush cleaning technique there.

I hope you'll try this method out and let me know if it works for you.
