REVIEW| REVLON COLORSTAY MAKEUP FOUNDATION in 'HAZELNUT'

About a year and a half ago, I wrote a review on Beauty Bulletin about Revlon’s Colorstay 24H Makeup Foundation in ‘Hazelnut’ and I see that my sentiments about the foundation haven’t changed, well except for that one complaint that has actually been addressed. I thought I should update my review seeing as I’m now much happier with the foundation and there's a competition running with the #LoveSquadSA where the winner gets a year's supply of their favourite shade!

So in my last review this is what I had to say: "...It provides lightweight, medium coverage which is buildable for those who prefer full coverage...My shade in Hazelnut is part of the range that was introduced with Bonang Matheba; this is the range that caters for various shades of darker skin tones and it truly matches mine. My only issue with the product is that it doesn't have a 'pump action' bottle so you need to carefully measure for yourself the amount of product that you will need..." According to Revlon, the new version of the foundation comprises the same great formula except it's  now contained in a colour-coded pump-action bottle - those with combination/ oily skin can identify their foundation with the black translucent lid, while the variant for dry/ normal skin has a clear transparent lid . I was truly ecstatic when I found out that this was the new addition to my all-time favourite foundation. I've been going on about it on Instagram in hopes of grabbing that one year's supply (forgive me my Instagram friends, lol), but competition aside, it really is a great foundation for anyone who wants affordable, natural-looking, long-lasting coverage.

Revlon Colorstay in the shade 'Hazelnut'. Extensive range of shades for darker skin tones and great natural-looking coverage with SPF 15
New packaging with pump
The new pump dispenses about 3ml of foundation which is the right amount for a standard full-face application - if you want fuller coverage you can obviously add another pump and layer the foundation. I often stick to the one pump because it gives me flawless medium coverage. The formula itself applies quite dewy but settles into a comfortable matte finish. It dries quickly hence the instructions on the bottle advise that you apply foundation to one area and blend, before moving onto the next area, however I haven't experienced any patchiness or streaky application when I dot it around my face then blend.

Medium coverage achieved with a stippling brush

Apart from the impressive coverage, the foundation is also amazingly long-lasting and has minimal transfer. I haven't worn it for 24 hours, but I've managed about 14 hours with the only areas getting retouched being my nose, due to it getting oily and sweaty in warm weather, and around my mouth. I've also noticed that when I go for fuller coverage, the foundation does oxidise (turns orange-ish/ appear darker due to the pigments in the foundation reacting with the natural oils in my skin/ foundation drying out) but it's less noticeable on a light application. I've read that applying primer as a barrier between your skin and the foundation or hydrating your face throughout the day with a facial mist, can keep the oxidation at bay.

Revlon Colorstay 24H Makeup Foundation is available at Clicks, Dischem, Foschini and Edgars and retails for R299 (R239 was the promotional price).

If you are new to makeup and are looking for an affordable, good quality foundation, I'd suggest you try this foundation. There are 27 shades to choose from, so you're bound to get matched to one or two!

Hope the review has been helpful!

Love,
